Must-have Firefox extensions and plugins

Mozilla Firefox is a great browser indeed. It has definitely replaced all my other browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Konqueror) on all my machines. The best thing of Firefox , however, is its ability to be expanded with extensions and plugins. The side of the coin is: there are ALOT of plugins around on the network, and it's very difficult to get the right  and/or the best ones for a functionality we require. In this post I will provide a list of the best plugins I've found around the net
Here is the list of the plugins I have installed on my Firefox browser. Feel free to leave a comment if you know better plugins!

WebDesign Plugins

  • Edit CSS:The Editcss project ought to be an easy way for web developers to edit and modify currently loaded stylesheets. It's an extension based on a wonderfull bookmarklet created by Jesse Ruderman : Edit styles and displays the code into a sidebar under Mozilla Firefox.
  • Web Developer: An essential extension for any web developer/designer as it provides a raft of incredibly useful features all under one roof. You will wonder how you ever managed without it!
  • Hypertext DOM Browser: You traverse DOM tree just like a normal Web site. This has the advantage that you can use tabbed browsing, find in page, etc. to explore the DOM objects. Also it can be used as JavaScript calculator
  • Add N Edit Cookies:Cookie Editor that allows you add and edit "session" and saved cookies
  • Codetch: get the feel of Dreamweaver in a Firefox extension. Edit your documents right next to your web pages as you surf.
  • MetaTags Sidebar: this sidebar displays page meta-information (metatags, links, etc.). Has automated search engine submission menu. Useful tool for SEO
  • LiveHTTPHeaders: the goal of this project is to adds information about the HTTP headers. You can inspect HTTP headers to tweak out problems while testing.
  • Measure it: Draw a ruler across any webpage to check the width, height, or alignment of page elements in pixels.
  • FireBug: FireBug is a new tool that aids with debugging Javascript, DHTML, and Ajax. It is like a combination of the Javascript Console, DOM Inspector, and a command line Javascript interpreter.

Web Surfing tools

  • del.icio.us: well no need to comment this. Have your bookmarks wherever you are. You need a del.icio.us account.
  • downTHEMall!: DownThemAll lets you filter and download - literally in a click - all the links contained in any web-page, increasing download speed up to 600%, and letting you pause and resume downloads any time you want, also from previous FF sessions!
  • Nuke Anything Enhanced: Allow hiding of almost anything -for example before printing - via context menu "Remove Object". Is there something annoying on a webpage? Nuke it away with a click!
  • Session Saver: Restores all browser-windows + tabs, after shutdown or a crash
  • SwitchProxy: If you work with more than one proxy server on a regular basis, SwitchProxy lets you edit and remove them from a single master list. Then you can select a proxy from the list and click Apply. SwitchProxy can also be used as an anonymizer, allowing you to surf the web anonymously by using a list of proxies that it randomly switches at defined intervals.
  • StumbleUpon:StumbleUpon lets you "channelsurf" the best-reviewed sites on the web. It is a collaborative surfing tool for browsing, reviewing and sharing great sites with like-minded people. This helps you find interesting webpages you wouldn't think to search for.

Blogging tools

  • Performancing: Performancing for Firefox is a full featured blog editor that sits right in your Firefox browse and lets you post to your blog easiy. You can drag and drop formatted text from the page you happen to be browsing, and take notes as well as post to your blog.
  • SAGE:Sage is a lightweight RSS and Atom feed reader extension for Mozilla Firefox. It's got a lot of what you need and not much of what you don't.

Well, I hope you'll find this useful. Again, if you know more / better plugins that should be inserted in this list, just leave a comment and I'll check it out and maybe insert in the list!
