Sunset in Greece – Santorini & Crete

Just wanted to share some beautiful sunset videos I've taken in Greece. The first one is from Rethymno, a lovely city in the island of Crete. There is an old Venetian Fortress just on the seaside which overlooks the entire town. You can witness a really amazing and romantic sunset from here, especially if the day is windy and the sea roars endlessly under the stone walls

The next one was taken in the world famous Santorini island, in the town of Oia. The sunset here is something so spectacular that you have to queue to watch it! You can also board one of the several boat trips to watch it from the strait near the town. I have to say I prefer watching it from the higher ground of the town. Don't forget to have a nice pork souvlaki before or after the "movie" :-)

Last but not least let's see something on the opposite spectrum, a nice dawn video which was also taken in Santorini, from the Blue Suites hotel in Fira - or Thira, which is also the original ancient Greek name of the island. The name "Santorini" comes from more recent times when the venetians named it after St. Irene. Although the island is famed for the Oia sunset, I have to say that this spectacular sunrise was equally beautiful to watch and worth an early wake up call. The bells you can hear in the background are the ones from the donkeys that are used to ferry tourists up and down from the old port to the town center - it's s more than 200m over 600 steps. There is also a recently installed cable car - a gift to the island from a wealthy businessman, and you can use this in place of the furry animals if you don't feel safe on them - in any case part of its fee is allocated to the donkey breeders to not disrupt their business!
