500px vs Flickr – Online Photo Sharing services
After being a loyal Flickr fan for years (and pro subscriber), I have to say that I am on the verge of betraying them and move to 500px. A quick comparison of the two follows. Please note I am not comparing the Free service, I want unlimited uploads and storage and both services are offering it only on the paid subscription.
Flickr
- Price: 24.95 $ (or ~ 15.5 £ ) a year
- Unlimited Load / Storage: Yes
- Unlimited Sets: Yes
- Original file storage: Yes
- Other: Ad free browsing / Stats / HD video upload
- Pros: good privacy & licensing options for each picture. Well established website with a large user base.
- Cons: pricier than 500px , so-so interface and UI, has not changed much lately
- Price: Plus 19.95 $ (or ~ 12.3 £ ) (*)
- Unlimited Load / Storage: Yes
- Unlimited Sets: Yes
- Original file storage: ???
- Other: Stats / Sets / Stories
- Pros: Slick'n Sexy interface. Very good content quality, Cheaper than Flickr with the "Plus" option
- Cons:Less flexible in Privacy and licensing options
Both services do offer a Developer API to integrate with them, I have not used them so far so I can't really feedback on that. In general I think it's going to be difficult to move away from Flickr at least for me, as up there I have pretty much every picture I took since I own a digital camera on their servers (that's around ~7K images). However recently when I want to showcase a particular picture and get some feedback from other photographers, I've found that this is much easier to be done on 500px . I used to invest a lot of time in Flickr years ago, and back then it was easier to get feedback, but today it seems much more difficult to simply upload a pic and get some instant feedback. As soon as I created the 500px account instead, and put some photos up there, I got an instant reaction from other photographers and felt that it was quite easy to reciprocate by visiting their stream and have a look!
In short, not sure if I am going to migrate, mainly because it will be a painful process if I decide to do it...but I am very tempted!
(*) They also offer an "Awesome" package at 49.95 $ ( or ~ 31 £ ) a year which includes a personalised portfolio with Google Analytics integration. Don't need it, not considering it in my comparison!

London Eye
Got some time yesterday to bring out my camera and take some pics of the London Eye. It was a misty night, in the best London tradition!

The London Eye is a 135-metre (443 ft) tall giant Ferris wheel situated on the banks of the River Thames, in London, England.
It is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom, visited by over 3.5 million people annually. When erected in 1999, it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, until surpassed first by the 160 m (520 ft) Star of Nanchang in 2006, and then the 165 m (541 ft) Singapore Flyer in 2008. It is still described by its operators as "the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel" (as the wheel is supported by an A-frame on one side only, unlike the Nanchang and Singapore wheels).
Commonly known as the London Eye, or Millennium Wheel, formerly the Merlin Entertainments London Eye and before that, the British Airways London Eye. Since 20 January 2011, it has been officially known as the EDF Energy London Eye following a three-year sponsorship deal.
The London Eye is located at the western end of Jubilee Gardens, on the South Bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Lambeth, between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge. The site is adjacent to that of the former Dome of Discovery, which was built for the Festival of Britain in 1951.

I have to say that owning a Canon EOS 500d is a total different story :asd: The photo quality and the feeling when using a reflex is so much better!

Se fossi un criminale e, durante una rapina o simili, venissi colpito e ucciso da uno di questi poliziotti cinesi in segway penso che mi sentirei un po' una merda e mi vergognerei di me stesso prima di morire :asd:

E chi è? Non lo so :asd: So solo che, durante le mie quotidiane peregrinazioni su flexplore 2.0 alla ricerca di foto figose, mi sono imbattuto in questa creatura che ben rappresenta la primavera e tutto quello che noi uomini associamo ad essa. Per concludere in bellezza, ho fatto di più ed ecco il risultato di una rapida ricerca su youtube. L'unica altra cosa che posso dire (grazie alle mie immense capacità di information digging su google) è che è cilena, ha 19 anni ed è una ballerina.
Ora però, dato che ho attirato la vostra attenzione, vorrei discutere di attualità, e specialmente dei fantasiosi congegni anti stupro che, visti i recenti fatti di cronaca, tutti si stanno affrettando a proporre in difesa delle donne. Certo potrebbero essere utili per alcune categorie (ad esempio donne che giornalmente utilizzano mezzi pubblici e si spostano in orari poco frequentati), mi sembra però più una sparata elettorale che altro.
Mi piacerebbe sentire un parere femminile: io però ritengo che queste sono un po' delle gran cavolate, visto e considerato che, al di là dei fatti eclatanti di cronaca, le statistiche indicano chiaramente una maggior prevalenza di questi odiosi atti in ambito familiare (o comunque relativo alla cerchia più ristretta di conoscenze).
Magari sarebbe più utile organizzare dei veri e propri corsi di autodifesa o rendere disponibili dei dispositivi di difesa personale (spray irritanti, taser e compagnia) di facile utilizzo. Per i casi che si verificano ad opera di sconosciuti, basterebbe aumentare la presenza sul territorio delle forze dell'ordine (cosa che concorrerebbe anche al ripristino della sicurezza in generale). Dal lato giudiziario si potrebbero inasprire le pene e rendere i processi più snelli, concentrandosi sui casi di effettiva gravità ed evitando di emettere sentenze ridicole come questa.
Che poi, con le condizioni da carro bestiame che ci sono sui nostri treni, noi pendolari saremmo già stati tutti incarcerati come violentatori recidivi da tempo :asd:
Stabilizzatore per foto/videocamera
Siete stufi di fare foto mosse o video tremolanti ma non avete i soldi necessari a comprarvi un obiettivo con stabilizzatore superpauer (perchè preferite impiegarli per 5 escort polacche che stiano con voi in una suite per un intero week-end)?
Il tizio in questione sembra aver trovato un metodo alquanto semplice ed economico per ottenere un minimo di stabilità in più dalla propria fotocamera. Funzionerà?
