Duxford Airshow – 8/9 September 2012
Last Saturday I finally had a chance to visit the Imperial War Museum at Duxford (near Cambridge in the United Kingdom). The occasion was pretty juicy, as the regular September Airshow was scheduled for that weekend. I think it's almost since I have moved to the UK that I wanted to attend this particular event, as I am quite interested in aviation and warbirds from my very childhood. For once the British weather was also forgiving, with clear skies and high temperatures around 28 C, the ideal set to watch an Airshow.
The museum itself is pretty easy to reach from Cambridge's railway station. It's about 15 minutes with a free courtesy bus which runs every 30 minutes.
FOLED super slim display – schermo flessibile
Già da qualche tempo stanno circolando prototipi di schermi LCD flessibili e supersottili: recentemente la ditta Universal Display Corporation ha presentato un prototipo abbastanza avanzato. Il prototipo si basa sulla tecnologia OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode), una nuova tecnologia alternativa ai tradizionali cristalli liquidi (LCD) che promette ingombri più ridotti, la possibilità di rendere flessibile lo schermo (FOLED) e soprattutto rende superflua la retroilluminazione (dato che i materiali utilizzati sono in grado di emettere luce se sottoposti a una piccola tensione). Inoltre non è da sottovalutare la maggior resistenza agli sforzi meccanici e alla torsione. Pensate a quanto sono fragili i dispositivi a cristalli liquidi ... questa maggior dinamicità dello schermo ridurrebbe notevolmente i costi di manutenzione, oltre ad aprire nuove opportunità di utilizzo dovute alle peculiarità di questo nuovo materiale! Update: non è flessibile, ma è un orologio da polso basato su un OLED e su cui girano Linux e X11 ... ahah
