Spying on your smartphone over the shoulder…
So, everyone nowadays has a smartphone (iPhone, Android or Blackberry, not to forget all the new shiny tablets) and wherever you are, everyone is busy typing and typing on the touch screen. Have you ever considered how what you type on the screen could be read by someone looking over your shoulder? And have you considered all the CCTV cameras, how confident are you that whoever is behind the screens to oversee those cameras may not be interested in peeking at your phone screen instead? This paper explores the problem and the effectiveness of the methods used to automatically capture what you type.

Will Google+ beat Facebook?
So a week ago I have managed to get hold of a Google+ invite, and I managed to play with it for a while now. I am also a quite "greedy" Facebook user so it was a good occasion to find out if and why I would like to move to the new service:

Seamlessly integrates with phone: so yes, I own an Android phone (HTC Desire HD) and of course I love the fact that Google+ is working perfectly with my phone, with push updates and all the goodies
Straightforward privacy approach: although the actual functionality is not "revolutionary" (as in, you can pretty much achieve the same level of privacy / re sharing with Facebook), the usability of the Circles interface is far more simple and straightforward than the dungeon of privacy ticks, groups etc... which you can find in Facebook
Interface: apart from the "Circles" feature, the interface in general seems to me less bulky and quite user-friendly. Main reason being probably the opportunity for Google to redesign it from scratch and attempt to get it right from the start, trying to address what are regarded as basic "flaws" in Facebook (such as, for example, the complex settings / privacy flags in it)

It's already there everyone knows it, it's part of mass culture already and even my dog has signed up for it and is showcasing a Facebook profile
More features altough Google Plus is still in beta and you would expect them to integrate quickly a lot of features (for example, they could integrate the Calendar as an "Events" function, which is missing ATM), Facebook takes the lead at the moment with the number of features offered. However, sometimes it could also be a drawback (for instance, do you really need Farmville and all the annoying updates coming from it)
So, in short:
- Google Plus it's the novelty, it's cool because "it's from Google" and just integrates seamlessly with your Android phone (a strong plus for Android users such as me)
- Facebook it's the mainstream option, everyone has a profile already and everyone is used to it. Will it be enough to keep the lead?

Wind rimodula le offerte internet mobile
E te pareva che cambiando operatore non mi cambiavano anche le tariffe sotto il naso. Da quando sono passato a Wind avevo sottoscritto una comodissima tariffa di 3 euro mensili per avere un bonus di traffico dati (750 € equivalenti al mese) più che sufficiente per tutte le mie necessità. Questi maledetti hanno tuttavia rimodulato le offerte, e dal 17 Novembre 2008 la tariffa i-mode NO LIMITS diventerà una ciofeca totale, con una specie di piano tariffario a tempo (cosa per cui ero scappato da Vodafone) per di più relativo al traffico di tipo WAP ... cosa me ne faccio del WAP nel 2008 quasi 2009?? Oltretutto dal sito sono scomparse praticamente tutte le opzioni che fino a pochi giorni fa erano presenti, lasciando ben poca scelta. Edit: le ho ritrovate, l'alternativa sarebbe la Mega 1500 a 8 € al mese che però offre una quantità dati esorbitante per me, visti i miei consumi attuali che prevedono poche e frequenti connessioni a basso traffico.

Scimmia telefonica – Nokia N78
So che tutti si aspettano un resoconto della avventura a Київ, ma per il momento dovrete attendere perchè preferisco lasciar sedimentare un po'tutto prima di rivolgermi alle masse. Per il momento la mia attenzione è presa dal cellulare che, dopo tante considerazioni, ho deciso di acquistare: il Nokia N78. Questo telefono mi interessava soprattutto per le elevate capacità applicative e per la presenza della connessione wi-fi, utili cioè a sfruttare internet, instant messaging e chiamate Voip ovunque disponibile. E'presente anche un navigatore A-GPS: non che io ne abbia particolarmente bisogno (anzi, la mia proverbiale capacità di orientamento non è stata scalfita nemmeno dal cirillico): oggi però ci ho giocherellato un po'e tutto questo mi è costato il prosciugamento del credito (fortunatamente non troppo alto) della mia SIM, convintissimo com'ero di utilizzare la mia connessione wi-fi e non la connessione 3G.
Ecco alcune applicazioni che ho installato: Opera Mini (browser) e Google Maps. Per la messaggistica/voip pensavo di installare Fring, ma al momento il mio terminale non è supportato (lo sarà a breve) . Nel mentre, pensavo di installare e provare Nimbuzz. Qualcuno lo conosce/lo ha provato? O ha applicazioni da consigliare?
Ultima considerazione sulle tariffe. Dopo essermi fatto fregare il credito come un imbecille (colpa mia ovviamente) ho comunque controllato le tariffe del mio attuale operatore (Vodafone) e non mi soddisfano per nulla. Penso quindi di passare a Wind e fare una delle opzioni Internet No Limits che prevedono un forfait di traffico dati mensile. Gli scatti a tempo non hanno assolutamente alcun senso per me.

Vortexmind goes mobile – WAP
Non avendo decisamente un cazzo da fare, ho pensato di fare una cosa utile: ho rivolto infatti la mente a tutti quei poveretti in spiaggia che, impegnati da giorni in noiosissime partite a racchettoni ed essendosi ormai stufati di correre dietro a microscopici tanga vorrebbero visitare Vortexmind ma non possono farlo perchè non hanno il loro computer a portata di mano e preferiscono andare a bere al bar invece di cercare un internet point. Ebbene, d'ora in poi, se avete un niu mobile phone gprs umts edge con fotocamera da 15.9 GigaPixel e possibilità di proiettare ologrammi ("Aiutami Obi-Wan Kenobi.! Sei la mia unica speranza!" vi dice niente?), potrete leggere Vortexmind dal vostro cellulare! YeeEEeEeeeEeeeEEEeeeeHhhhHH! Il tutto funziona con un misero browser WAP enabled. Ecco qui i link che dovete salvare nei preveriti del vostro telefonino!

Vi chiederete? Ma come hai fatto a fare tutto questo? Ti sarai sbattuto un sacco! E invece è tutto molto semplice: per il feed ho usato xfruits, per la versione WAP del blog ho usato l'addon wp-wap e per testare il tutto ho usato, oltre al mio fantastico e figosissimo cellulare, il browser wapsilon. E ora non avete più scuse! Lasciate stare i micro-bikini e venite qui a leggere

Cellulari – Nokia Aeon
Premesso che di cellulari normalmente non me ne frega una mazza (la mia regola è comprarne uno che serva esclusivamente a quello per cui è stato inventato, ovvero telefonare, e farlo durare finchè non cade a pezzi o finchè non decide di ribellarsi all'egemonia degli esseri umani diventando un robottone giapponese con i lanciarazzi), non posso non farvi vedere le foto di quello che dovrebbe essere il nuovo modello della casa finlandese, il Nokia Aeon.
Come potete vedere, la caratteristica principale è la presenza di un touchscreen unico su tutta la parte frontale del dispositivo (presumibilmente realizzata implementando tecnologie tipo OLED, ma questa è una mia supposizione). Questo permetterebbe di rivedere le funzionalità del dispositivo stesso, ampliando le possibilità di impiego del telefono ad altri usi in modo più semplice ed ergonomico. Che so, uno potrebbe programmarsi una tastiera di suo gradimento ... magari inserire dei bottoni con funzionalità customizzabili... robe del genere 
Insomma, i geni della Human Computer Interaction e dell'usabilità si potranno trastullare le parti intime per giorni al solo pensiero delle infinite possibilità ^_^
