London Eye

Got some time yesterday to bring out my camera and take some pics of the London Eye. It was a misty night, in the best London tradition!

Some information from Wikipedia

The London Eye is a 135-metre (443 ft) tall giant Ferris wheel situated on the banks of the River Thames, in London, England.

It is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom, visited by over 3.5 million people annually. When erected in 1999, it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, until surpassed first by the 160 m (520 ft) Star of Nanchang in 2006, and then the 165 m (541 ft) Singapore Flyer in 2008. It is still described by its operators as "the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel" (as the wheel is supported by an A-frame on one side only, unlike the Nanchang and Singapore wheels).

Commonly known as the London Eye, or Millennium Wheel, formerly the Merlin Entertainments London Eye and before that, the British Airways London Eye. Since 20 January 2011, it has been officially known as the EDF Energy London Eye following a three-year sponsorship deal.

The London Eye is located at the western end of Jubilee Gardens, on the South Bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Lambeth, between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge. The site is adjacent to that of the former Dome of Discovery, which was built for the Festival of Britain in 1951.

Richmond Sunset – London

For once, a nice sunny day in London, and I took the occasion to remove some dust from my Canon EOS camera. After a while, I was really craving for a nice photo session. Enjoy!

Christmas in London

London Parks - Winter
Little squirrel eating a nut in St.James Park

Having been caugth in the Heathrow mayhem a few days ago, I've gave up trying to get home in Italy. Therefore this will be my 1st Christmas in London, which ain't too bad, if it wasn't for not seeing my family at home. I was due to travel the 18th of December, when the heaviest snowfall struck the airport down and had my flight cancelled. Definitely an unlucky day, as the Tube failed too and I had to take a cab. Worth to mention that TFL had charged me incorrectly for two incomplete journeys, but managed to fully refund me pretty quickly. Lufthansa was quite bad instead, they gave no news for days and I was unable to get hold on the customer services till yesterday, when they offered me a full refund. Better than nothing. Now it's time to prep up the Christmas dinner. It will be quite a mission to get people here, as there is no public transport at all in London on the Christmas Day: I wonder how you can do that in such a huge city, but well... Will keep you posted on the menu smiley

The seaside in Brighton…

Brighton

And so ... after one year and a half I managed to explore the famous seaside resort in United Kingdom, Brighton for a weekend break. 1 hour train from central London, not too bad. Have to say it was quite good, temperature was terrific and it was quite fun to see how the britons are reacting to the sunshine and the nice temperatures smiley I have got a sunburn, mainly because I am not having regular doses of sunshine lately! No bathing for me, water looked way too cold for a mediterranean being like me... Now, let's hope the sun stays around a bit more for the Bank Holyday week end!

London Life

Aphrodite
